Domaine Jean-Pierre Guyon Nuits Saint Georges "Aux Herbues" 2012
Tasting Notes
The colour is a beautiful red-purple which sparkles. The nose is a bit reserved and needs patience. It blossoms on opening into a palette of darker fruits such as bilberry, blackberry and blackcurrant with wood essences such as cedar and incense. The mouth feel is suave and well covered. This is an upright, enigmatic wine of remarkable persistence. To combine with medallions of veal with girolle mushrooms, a risotto with chorizo and parmesan, the famous bœuf bourguignon or with game.
This vineyard borders Vosne-Romanée. Jean-Pierre’s 0.23 hectares of vines are 70 years old, giving a tiny, millerandé crop. The perfume is floral, unusual for a Nuits – certainly due to its proximity to Vosne. Another regular tasting note is white pepper. The wine’s sense of clarity is most impressive. This is a composed and engaging example at this level
